Investing in a restaurant can be a daunting prospect. I’m a software application guy, not a restaurateur. With fierce competition, strict regulations, and demanding quality control standards, it takes a special combination of factors to succeed. Yet, despite the challenges, I have found myself drawn to investing in Rosemarie’s Burgers, a restaurant with a passionate owner and an unbeatable product.

Let me explain why I believe that Rosemarie’s has all the right ingredients for success.

Meet the Culinary Genius Behind Rosemarie’s Burgers: Nicholas Balsamo of Where to Eat California

When it comes to culinary talent, few people match up to my good friend Nicholas Balsamo. Nicholas and I met during freshman year of college, and I have had the pleasure of watching his culinary skills grow and develop over the last decade. He honed his craft in Hong Kong, perfecting his Asian cuisine, before returning to the US to pursue his passion for food.

In 2019, Nicholas launched Where to Eat California, a culinary venture that started with pop-up family-style dinners in picturesque locations like Balboa Park in San Diego, California. When the pandemic hit, he had to hustle and find new ways to succeed… and he did just that. Nick kept hustling, expanding, and winning. Despite all the headwinds.

Today, Rosemarie’s Burgers has found a home next to Harland Brewery in the Bay Park neighborhood of San Diego. With its highly-rated “mouth-watering” burgers and family style service, it has quickly become a local favorite.

I am excited to have invested in this promising venture, and I believe that Nick’s passion for food and dedication to his craft will continue to drive its success.

Why am I Investing? Further Expansion to Brick-and-Mortar Location

Nick’s food truck crushed it last year, earning 60+ 5-star reviews on Google while maintaining high-quality food. This year, the business is already on track to surpass last year’s performance, which means it’s time to take the next step and expand to a physical location.

The team has already chosen a location for the restaurant, and they’re currently in the process of building it out, obtaining the necessary liquor license and regulatory paperwork, hiring and training staff, and preparing for the grand opening. As you can imagine, this is a quite the undertaking that requires a substantial investment of both time and money.

When the team approached me about investing in the restaurant, I was impressed by their well-designed pitch deck and their track record of success. Having been closely involved with the business for several years, I was excited to become an investor and support the team’s efforts to bring their vision to life.

My Role at Rosemarie’s: Tech and Marketing Advisor

So, full disclosure: I’m not exactly a culinary expert. I’m more of a software guy, if you catch my drift. But just because I can’t whip up a gourmet burger like Nick doesn’t mean I can’t contribute to Rosemarie’s success in other ways.

See, back when I was working at an agency, I built a ton of upscale restaurant websites on WordPress. And I also happen to know a thing or two about marketing and technology. So I figured, why not put those skills to use in the restaurant industry?

As a technical and marketing advisor for Rosemarie’s, I’ll be focusing on areas where I can add value. One of the first things I’m going to tackle is email marketing and automation. While Rosemarie’s is solid on social media (seriously, have you seen their Instagram?), they could definitely do a better job of collecting customer emails. Imagine how much easier it would be to make a splash when the new restaurant opens with a few thousand local fans already in the bag!

Thanks for joining me on this journey, and I’ll catch you on the flip side. See you at Rosemarie’s!
