Web Development Time Lapse #1

Posted on Oct 10, 2012 in Coding, Web Development, WordPress | 4 Comments

This video may teach you something, but it isn’t meant to be instructional. It’s more of a view on how I build websites. Building a website always starts with a plan. Before I begin, I always review the PSD and devise a development plan. Which plugins am I going to use? How am I going to build and integrate different content areas and widgets so that the end user will never have to touch code? That’s just two of the many questions I ask.

Technologies Used:

  • WordPress 3.4.2
  • Roots Theme Framework
  • PHPStorm 5
  • Chrome
  • LiveReload 2
  • Photoshop CS6
  • RoyalSlider
  • jQuery, CSS3, HTML5

Developer: Devin Walker
Music: Pelican – Ephemeral
All Credits: The Sound Press

Note: It’s important to remember that this development time lapse is only a first pass. What I don’t display is cross-browser testing (eeeekkkk… I know…) and various device testing. I also didn’t do a pass-through the PSD so there are a few visible difference. I prefer my end products to be pixel-perfect as can be so that’s just my disclaimer!

    Hey Devin, sick coding!

Now make one at regular speed lol, maybe sell it on Udemy? I need practice with the roots theme!

    Much success 🙂

Hey Lenny – I’m glad you like it! I’d love to do a longer instructional video sometime. Thanks for the suggestion. Roots can be a bit confusing when starting off, but the more you work with it the better you’ll like it!
